SUMMARY:
Project Management: project microbiologist will plan, write protocols, coordinate, execute, compile data, and write reports for microbial intervention validation projects. This will require the Research Microbiologist to coordinate as necessary with sales, establishment level FSQA staff, corporate FSQA staff, operations, scheduling, laboratory staff, etc. to ensure that samples are taken, handled, and analyzed according to the project protocol. These projects will include both pilot plant and plant operational validations.
Administrative: as appropriate, distribute summaries from scientific journals, industry publications, and FSIS publications to inform senior management, corporate FSQA staff and other groups of recent relevant research and other developments.
Incident Investigation: in response to specific, time critical problems, be able to quickly collect, analyze, and present food safety system process information to decision makers.
Technical Support: provided to FSQA staff and operations as needed. This may include HACCP regulatory support, and writing white papers on specific topic.
External Relations: develop and maintain contacts with scientists in appropriate academic institutions.


Job Requirements
Education: A MS degree in biochemistry, microbiology, or other food related discipline is preferred. A BS degree is acceptable with additional experience.

Experience: 3+ years' experience in microbiology with a preference in food microbiology is required. Red meat production or Quality Assurance experience is preferred. A strong background in statistics is highly desirable with regard to project design and collaboration with the corporate statistics department.

Computer Skills: Experience with SAS or other statistical software and spreadsheets are desirable.

Communication Skills: Must have strong verbal and written communication skills to write project protocols and reports for management staff having different levels of knowledge.
